On Graduation
How does it work?
Our curriculum is divided into eight-week semesters.
During the semester, progress is tracked by using 3 black stripes on the belt that show knowledge of and competence in the material required for the student's belt rank.
At the end of the semester, there is a belt testing and graduation.
This is how students progress through the belt ranks toward black belt.
Why all the belts?
The goal most martial arts students have is to achieve their black belt, but it can seem like an impossibly large task.
Having different coloured belts breaks down the large goal of reaching black belt into smaller goals. This makes the goal more achievable.
The different coloured belts are a visual reminder of the progress a student has made, and they make the goal for black belt trackable.
Why test?
Testing provides an opportunity for students to display their new skills, and for friends and family members to see what the student have learned.
Testing in front of an audience teaches student to have confidence when in front of people, and because the instructors work hard to make sure each student who tests is ready, the experience is almost always a positive one.
Having student test for rank rather than just awarding it preserves the integrity of the rank, and allows every student to be confident that they deserve the rank they received
